Dali has recently become one of my favorite artists, though his era ended about 30 years ago. Born in Spain, from a young age, Dali found beauty in art and would eventually go on to study at an academy in Madrid. In the 1920s, he went to Paris and began interacting with artists such as Pablo Picasso, René Magritte and Miró, which led to Dalí's first Surrealist phase.
His initial paintings drew inspiration from other well-known artists, though in his later works Dali became more authentic through his combination of Renaissance and Classical art, as well as religious symbolism. I find his work to be particularly fascinating because it is so bizarre and frankly, unlike anything I have ever seen. His paintings are almost like a mystery, waiting to be interpreted by the audience. Here is my favorite piece of his.
